Humans tend to enjoy poking their noses (and fingers) into places they don't belong, and this situation is no exception. This story takes place on Earth, though no one likes to admit it.
It is 2600 AD, and the military and the scientific community have begun to work more closely than ever before. In an attempt at strategy, a suggestion is given; if people could read minds, they would be much more useful in times of war. They would be able to see the enemy's plans before they initiated them, and adjustments could be made accordingly.
Experiments were run and death followed.
Project Animo was eventually retired, deemed a waste of valuable resources.
